APC CORNER of the WEEK

"Freezeframe"

Do you know the name of the new Juneau School Superintendent? His name is Glen Gelbrich and boy, is he interested in knowing who Juneau Community Charter School is!
Gelbrich initiated "100 days of Listening" and he has let JCCS know he would like to come to our school soon and see what our school is all about.

I clicked to the district school web site and read the superintendent's preliminary report to the school board. One of his observations caught my eye,
" Continue studying alternative programs. There are seemingly competing interests here. Some are interested in possibly expanding alternative programs, while
others are concerned that alternative programs compete for resources with existing programs and may be less representative of the student demographics in

Now I have no idea what alternative programs may have been specifically addressed in his conversation with some 200 people, but I do think his visit to our school will be an important
snap shot of who we are and how well our school is working. We score very well on standardized tests, but the heart of the school will be on display.

So as you've read this, you might have a couple ideas of what wonderful things you see in the school that you would like Superintendent Gelbrich to observe. Exploratories in the 6/7?,
Art or science in another grade? How are children interact with each other?

Please email me this week with your ideas and thoughts. The APC board, in conjunction with the teachers, will be designing this thirty minute portrait of JCCS for Gelbrich to experience before the winter holidays.
