From Principal Kuhlmann's Desk Welcome to JDHS, home of the Crimson Bears. As we move toward a new excellence, our staff is focused on setting high academic expectations supported by effective instructional practices that engage all students in the learning process. We offer many opportunities for adult connections including a wide variety of clubs and activities, but also a well-planned advisory period once a week. The advisory experiences focus on the development of a 4+2 plan for each students that helps them to identify a focused area of study aligned with their interests and, as juniors and seniors, assists with their planning and selection of a post-high school experience. Our academic programs are supported by learning communities that provide thematic instructional programs designed to increase student engagement, promote a sense of belonging, and enhance learning. Our communities connect curricular content, encourage teacher collaboration, and provide authentic, constructivist contexts for student learning. Our standards are focused on being college ready. We believe that all students should have college-ready skills to be successful. While nearly seventy-two percent of our students identify that they will be engage in some level of college experience, our programs are designed to teach all students to demonstrate 21st Century skills, those skills that helps each students successfully function in a global environment, engage in our community, respect diversity, and be responsible citizens.
