The Principal’s Letter

“Riverbend Elementary School is a diverse and nurturing community of learners dedicated to student achievement and success.”

Welcome Riverbend Beavers

School is just around the corner, and everybody is busy getting ready for the first day of school. When you walk through our doors, you will see a banner, which says:
                    100%
                         No Excuses. No Exceptions

    “This is our promise to you and to all of our students that every one of you will be successful at Riverbend School and we will do whatever it takes to make it happen.”

            Riverbend Community School is a TRIBES school, where we put into practice the “Positive Behavior Intervention Support Model (PBIS) which at our school is defined as: Being Safe, Being Kind and Being Responsible. When you demonstrate  (Being Safe, Being Kind and Being Responsible) in the lunchroom, halls and playground you have an opportunity to earn a bracelet, which you will later deposit into a big jar. When the jar is full you and your classmates will be rewarded with an extra recess or maybe a basketball game against the staff. Or, maybe you have some ideas of your own to share with us! I am proud to announce that PBIS was selected as the “Juneau School District Outstanding Program” for the 2008-2009 school year.  Thanks to all of you for making it happen.

           Please do not forget that we have a new start time, the hours are 8:00-1:00 for Kindergarten and 8:00-2:30 for 1st-5th grade. The doors of our school open at 7:45 and you can have breakfast at no cost to you. Breakfast is funded by donations, so anytime your family cares to donate breakfast items, we are very appreciative. If you do not eat breakfast, you are expected to go outside onto the playground, so dress for the weather! Once again we are offering a hot lunch program (the menu is on the web).  The cost of the lunch is only $3.00 and you can pay on the same day or in advance.

           If you are a bus rider, our faculty and staff will make sure that you get onto the correct bus and get home safely. If you are a Kindergartner, you will need to be picked up at 1:00 unless you are attending RALLY.   Kindergarten children are not allowed to walk home, so if your parents/care-provider cannot find you transportation home, please have them contact me immediately.  If your parent/care-provider is picking you up after school, please remind them that our goal is to keep you safe, Therefore, we have designed a system, which turns the pick up area into a “Roundabout.” The drill is, you line up, the cars line up single file and when your ride pulls up we help you into your car.

           I know this time of year you are excited about school and want to purchase school supplies. At Riverbend School, we provide school supplies for our students so you will not see a “list.”  If you want to purchase additional supplies for your desk, that’s “OK” too.

“Again, we promise to do whatever it takes to insure that you will achieve and experience success at Riverbend School. If we all believe it; then hand in hand we all will achieve it! "
