Students who had semester elective classes first semester are enrolled in new courses for this semester. Some of the interesting new (this semester) choices for students include Song Writing, Fashion Design, Painting, World Foods, Gymnastics and Yoga, Ancient Cultures, Ceramics II, and Music Theory. Some of the popular first semester courses are being offered again – Ceramics, Drawing, Beginning Band, Digital Arts, Acting / Theatre, Basic Woods, Small Engines, Alaska History, Fitness, Health, and World of Work.
Our staff is thoughtfully planning ahead. We’ve been looking at our school plan for the next 3-5 years to design a program that builds on the successful parts of the program that we have now, that is flexible enough to accommodate the steady increase in numbers, and challenging and rigorous enough to maintain the integrity of our vision. The district is in the process of publishing the high school enrollment choice brochure that will be sent to all 8th grade families and will be available for our families and students to review.
Our current students will be asked to complete course preference forms in the next few weeks. We anticipate another growth spurt next year as we graduate 60 students and anticipate having about 150 seniors next year.
This is, indeed, an exciting new year – new decade!
