Glacier Valley Represents Alaska in Our Nation’s Capital

Glacier Valley received the Kennedy Center Creative Ticket National School of Distinction Award and performed Tides and the Tempest:  a play adapted by Alaskan playwright David Hunsaker, at the Kennedy Center and the National Museum of the American Indian at the Smithsonian on March 14th & 15th, 2008.

Thirty-four 4th and 5th grade students traveled to Washington, DC and were honored to represent the diversity of our school, the Juneau community and the state of Alaska. Our cast was 38% Alaska Native, 12% Asian, 38% Caucasian & 12% Pacific Islander.

The Creative Ticket award recognizes schools that have done an outstanding job of making the arts an essential part of the education of their students.  Only four other schools in the United States share the 2007 award and Glacier Valley is the first school in Alaska ever to be honored.

Performing in Washington, DC

Thank you, Juneau for supporting our students’ performances in Washington, DC March 2008.  This trip would not have been possible without the generous support and hard work of everyone who contributed their time, money and talents.
